Something to Avoid in Outlines

This is something that comes up every now and then, so I'll address it right now. One key to having smoother, less jagged lines is to avoid putting two pixels directly adjacent to each other (most of the time). It's hard to explain so I'll give an example.

  1. Take a look at the right side of her chin (our left), see that little box looking shape coming out of it? It almost looks like a tilted 'M'. This is the result of putting a few too many pixels right next to each other at and weird angle. The solution is as follows:

  2. Isn't it amazing how much damage one little pixel can do? Most of the time, chopping off that one little pixel in the corner will do, but like most things, there's always an exception. Usually, it's okay to have some edges like that in clothing and accessories, but on organic things like the body and hair, it's best to avoid them whenever you can.
