The multiply technique uses several layers set to multiply to shade a sprite in multiple steps.
-
Start by choosing a base color and block in the major forms of the sprite. The base color should be the lightest shade desired.

-
Create new layer set to multiply lower the opacity of the layer to around 30%. Using the same color used to block in the major forms, draw over the sprite where shadow should go.

-
Create another layer set to multiply. To create darker shades use a higher opacity. Repeat this process for however many shades are desired.

As with the gray technique, this can get confusing. The sprite might end up having 4 or 5 layers. Erasing or adding a pixel in one layer may affect all the other layers with unwanted results. The solution for this is similar to the modified gray technique.
